Description: Originally named Mallam, this layout took its inspiration from the landscape around Malham in North Yorkshire. It was built as 32A MRC’s scenic N Gauge test track, providing club members with a place to test locomotives and rolling stock, as well as experiment with different scenery-building techniques.
A variety of methods were used to bring the layout to life, including static grass and scatter materials for ground cover, alongside an early attempt at creating a watercourse. The buildings demonstrate a similarly varied approach, incorporating plastic kits, card construction, laser-cut MDF and “download and print” models.
The layout is now privately owned by one of our members and has been given a new identity and a South West of England setting, prompting its change of name to Mallam Tor.
The high-level station provides a suitably scenic destination, complete with holiday accommodation and served by a vintage GWR railbus. The result is a layout that combines its original role as a club test track with a new character and setting of its own.
